Jared “JJ” Yabu, PT, DPT
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Dr. Jared “JJ” Yabu’s passion for physical therapy began as a cross country and track athlete in high school, working through lower extremity overuse injuries. During that time, he also witnessed how injuries, loss of mobility, and recovery affected his family members across different stages of life, shaping his belief that movement is at the heart of one’s identity, independence, and quality of life. These experiences inspired his pursuit of a career dedicated to helping others restore function and return to the activities that matter most to them.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Dr. Yabu continued his cross country and track career at Brown University in Providence, RI, where he competed in long-distance events and served as a team captain. He later earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Washington University in St. Louis, where he also served as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s cross country and track programs. During his doctoral training, he helped organize races that raised funds for the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research, blending his commitment to health promotion with advancing the profession. His athletic and coaching background continue to shape his patient-centered approach and his ability to connect with individuals of all abilities.
In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Yabu coaches recreational runners of all levels, supporting individuals in achieving their fitness goals while promoting lifelong, healthy movement. His professional interests focus on orthopedic care with a special emphasis on lower extremity injuries. He is recognized for his compassion, collaborative spirit, and mindset of continuous growth in both patient care and personal development.
Inspired by training stints in Colorado during a gap year from undergrad, Dr. Yabu returned to the state after completing his degree to pursue both his professional and athletic goals. In his spare time, he enjoys running, hiking, and exploring the outdoors, with a special passion for road racing and competing in the marathon. Above all, he is committed to empowering individuals not only to recover from injury, but also to build resilience, achieve their goals, and redefine what’s possible.
